The Disney parks are never short on surprises, and the latest updates to the Animal Kingdom's Tropical Americas expansion are no exception. With a major reimagining of the former DinoLand U.S.A. area, Disney is transforming the landscape into a vibrant village inspired by Central and South American cultures. This ambitious project promises to bring a new Encanto-themed ride, an Indiana Jones attraction, and additional dining and family-friendly experiences. As the construction progresses, the latest aerial photos from bioreconstruct reveal a captivating glimpse into the future of this exciting expansion.
One of the most prominent features is the Encanto ride's show building, which stands out as the largest new element in the area. The metal framework is nearing completion, and the attraction's interior will soon be hidden by exterior walls. The queue, designed to immerse guests in the Pueblo Esperanza experience, will be partially visible from the main entry section, with most of it eventually concealed by trees and green hills, true to the land's concept art. The nearby gift shop, previously Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures, is set to be rethemed, adding to the overall transformation.
The Indiana Jones attraction, replacing the former DINOSAUR, is taking shape as a Maya temple. The existing building will remain, but the temple facade will be installed in front of it. The area is being carefully renovated, preserving the original infrastructure while adding a new theme. The former Restaurantosaurus is also undergoing a similar transformation, with the exterior elements being heavily redesigned while the current infrastructure is preserved.
One of the most intriguing additions is the Pueblo Esperanza Carousel, which is taking shape with horizontal metal beams encircling the concrete foundation. The carousel will feature Disney animal characters as wood-carved seats, with an early look at a Kevin from Pixar's Up-themed seat revealed at the 2024 D23 convention. The concept art suggests that the adjacent concrete structures may connect to the ride, adding to the overall immersive experience.
Behind the scenes, designers are working on smaller reference models for various aspects of the new land. These models guide the development of full-scale structures, textures, and motifs, providing a glimpse into the land's aesthetic. As the construction progresses, the Tropical Americas area is set to become a vibrant and immersive addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom, offering a unique blend of culture, adventure, and Disney magic.
